Vouch alternatives for UK landlords and agents
Vouch has been absorbed into Goodlord. Its website now redirects there, and the name survives only as a middle tier, Control (Vouch). Whether you need a genuine alternative depends on something most comparison pages skip: whether you're a landlord or a letting agent. Half the market won't sell to a landlord at all, so this page splits the options that way rather than ranking everything in one table.
If you're a landlord: the options you can actually buy
These sell directly to you, today, without an agent or a contract. Prices are paid by the landlord — the Tenant Fees Act 2019 bans charging the tenant — and are normalised to include VAT, because residential lettings are VAT-exempt so you can't reclaim it.
| Provider | Price (inc. VAT) | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| RentFig | Free application form; £9 credit check / £19 full reference | Pay per check, no account or subscription. Full reference covers income and affordability, employer and previous-landlord references, Right to Rent (England) and anti-fraud. Also manages the tenancy afterwards. (Our own product.) |
| Oops Insurance | £9.99 credit check / £14.99 full reference | Undercuts RentFig on a full reference; requires an account. Its page headline says “from £5”, but the tiers listed are £9.99 and £14.99, and VAT status isn't stated. |
| OpenRent | £30 inc. VAT per reference | One tier, account required. Most useful if you also want to advertise the property on Rightmove and Zoopla, which is what OpenRent is really built for. |
Prices re-checked 1 August 2026 against each provider's own site. RentFig prices are our own and final — we aren't VAT-registered, so nothing is added at checkout.
If you're a letting agent: the platform alternatives
These are sold to agencies on contract, which is why none of them publishes a price. That is not evasiveness so much as a different business model — the per-reference cost is one line in a negotiated package.
| Provider | Price | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Goodlord (including Vouch) | Not published — no pricing page at all | Where Vouch went. Four tiers: Essential, Control (Vouch), PRO and Priority, with Open Banking income from Control and HMRC/payroll data plus full insurability at PRO. 30% instant, 90% within 72 hours. |
| HomeLet / Let Alliance | Not published — quoted on application | One company, not two: both are trading names of Barbon Insurance Group Limited (PIB Group), sharing the Experian-built VISTA product. Let Alliance adds Same Day Referencing built with TransUnion. HomeLet states referencing is for partner letting agents only. |
| Canopy | Not published — every tier shows “Let's talk” | Agent-facing, built around a tenant-owned RentPassport profile. Its free Pre-Qualification tier is self-certified — Canopy verifies the details only when someone pays to upgrade it to a reference. |
Details re-checked 1 August 2026 against each provider's own site.
The trap when you collect quotes
Two of the names above are the same business. HomeLet and Let Alliance are both trading names of Barbon Insurance Group Limited, part of PIB Group, and both sell the same Experian-built VISTA product. Quoting both feels like due diligence and isn't. If you want a genuine second opinion, it has to come from outside the group — Goodlord, Canopy, or one of the landlord-direct services.
The related trap is price research. Figures for the agent platforms circulate widely on the web, but none of these companies publishes a current rate card. We had to correct our own pages on 1 August 2026 after discovering the Canopy price we'd quoted was a members' rate from a page that expired in December 2024 — the full story is here. Treat any specific number you see for Canopy, Goodlord, HomeLet or Let Alliance as unverified until they give it to you themselves.
Choosing by what you actually need
- You self-manage and want a known price — a pay-per-check service. RentFig is £9 credit / £19 full with a free application form; Oops undercuts us on the full reference at £14.99.
- You need rent guarantee insurance— buy the reference from whoever provides the policy. Goodlord's PRO tier and the HomeLet/Let Alliance products are built to produce a decision an insurer will underwrite; a pay-per-check reference isn't.
- You're an agency already on Goodlord — staying put is the least disruptive path, since that is where Vouch went.
- You process references in volume— Canopy's tenant-owned RentPassport cuts re-keying, provided you accept that the free tier is self-certified until someone pays to verify it.
- You also need to run the tenancy afterwards— referencing is one evening's work; rent, compliance and tax are the next several years of it.
FAQ
Why do I need a Vouch alternative at all?
Because Vouch no longer exists as a company you can buy from. As at 1 August 2026 vouch.co.uk returns a permanent redirect to Goodlord, whose page states that Vouch referencing has moved to Goodlord. The name survives only as a middle tier, Control (Vouch). If you were a Vouch customer you are now, in practice, a Goodlord customer — and if you self-manage rather than work through an agent, that product isn't sold to you.
What's the best Vouch alternative for a self-managing landlord?
A provider that sells direct, because the agent platforms won't take your order. That narrows the field to pay-per-check services: RentFig at £9 for a credit check and £19 for a full reference with a free application form and no account, Oops Insurance at £9.99 and £14.99 with an account, and OpenRent at £30 per reference. On price the honest summary is that RentFig is cheapest on a credit check and Oops is cheapest on a full reference. (Disclosure: RentFig is our product.)
What's the best Vouch alternative for a letting agent?
If you are an agency, the agent platforms are genuinely open to you and the comparison is different. Goodlord is the direct continuation of Vouch and the least disruptive path. Canopy is worth a look if a tenant-owned profile that follows the applicant would cut re-keying across your pipeline. HomeLet and Let Alliance are strong on insurance-backed references and rent guarantee — but treat them as one option, because they are one company.
Which alternatives offer an insurable reference like Vouch's top tier?
Goodlord's PRO tier includes full insurability, and HomeLet and Let Alliance build their referencing around producing a decision an insurer will underwrite, which is what makes rent guarantee possible. Pay-per-check services including RentFig produce a factual reference rather than an underwriting decision. If rent guarantee insurance is the point of the exercise, buy the reference from whoever is providing the policy; if it isn't, an insurable decision buys you nothing extra.
Can I still log in to my old Vouch account?
Goodlord indicates that existing Vouch customers can still sign in to the previous dashboard, so historical references should remain reachable. New referencing runs through Goodlord. If you are leaving the platform entirely, download anything you need to keep first — you should not assume an acquired brand's old dashboard will stay available indefinitely.
