Tenant referencing — FAQ
- Is the tenant application form really free?
- Yes. You enter your email, we give you a shareable link, and your prospective tenant fills in their application — at no cost. You only pay if you choose to run a credit check or full reference afterwards.
- What's the difference between a credit check and a full reference?
- A credit-only check (£9) covers the applicant's credit history and basic identity. A full tenant reference (£14) adds income/affordability, right-to-rent and anti-fraud checks for a complete picture. Both run online.
- Does the credit check affect the tenant's credit score?
- No. Tenant referencing uses a soft 'quotation' search, which is only visible to the tenant on their own report and does not affect their credit score, no matter how many they have.
- Do I need a RentFig account?
- No account is needed for the free form or to run a one-off check by card. RentFig members pay a lower price per check and keep every reference organised against the tenancy automatically.
- Who collects the sensitive details for the check?
- When you run a check, our referencing partner emails the tenant directly to securely collect and consent to the information needed. That keeps the most sensitive data out of the free form.
